Again, I've slacked in keeping this blog updated. I can't believe how extremely busy we were this fall! Between volleyball, piano, dance, cub scouts, girl scouts, religious education, Destination Imagination and various meetings the last 3 months just flew.
Jack has adjusted well to school. He really likes going on Tuesdays and Thursdays when he has gym class with the "boy Mr. Albers". We'll see how it goes this week after having 2 weeks off. We will be meeting with his teacher next week for an at-home conference.
He has surpassed Rece in weight by 10 lbs. He's not quite as tall as him but he is definitely much more solid than his older brother. We had his winter concert in the beginning of December. He chose to wear a shirt and tie. I always thought he looked like Tony but seeing him in a shirt and tie (which Tony has to wear everyday), really made me and everyone else realize he truly was a "little Tony". The picture is after the concert. One of our friends (a teacher at the high school) decided Jack needed a beard like his daddy too.
Rece is doing well in school. He's been enjoying all the snow and the HUGE snow piles at the school playground. He just started his second year of Bitty Ball (little kids basketball) and he loves it. It's fun to see how he's progressed in a year. He's enjoying Cub Scouts again and especially this year as Tony is his pack leader. He will be starting wrestling again soon and we're all looking forward to that again.
I measured the kids a few weeks ago and Rece had grown over 1 inch since I last measured him in June. It's very noticeable in his short jeans...We went shopping yesterday and bought him a few new pairs of pants. Rece has also been struggling with some strange skin problems. He seems to have several (and I do mean a lot) wart like bumps called molluscum on his scalp and now they are traveling down his neck around under his arm and side and around to his belly. This is a virus similar to a wart and because he his immuno-suppressed, they are spreading like wild fire. And with all these bumps he has a weird cradle cap looking fungus on his scalp as well. We took him to his pediatrician for all of this and he did a scrape and sent them to the lab but he really wanted us to see a dermatologist at Children's for this. He gave us a cream to us behind Rece's ears (for his seborhea) but didn't want us to treat the other things until the derm. saw them. So on Wednesday, I'll be taking the boys to Children's for their cardiology check-ups and then I'll take Rece back down on Thursday for his dermatology appointment and to get his cavities filled. If the weather is bad (which right now it doesn't look like it will be) I'll just stay at a hotel for the night.
Emma is very busy with all her various activities. Mondays she has piano and dance. Wednesdays she has religious education. Thursdays she has Girl Scouts and DI and Saturdays she has Bitty Ball too. She's enjoying everything. She was also chosen by her teacher to be a part of the Mission Possible group at school. It's a group of 4th, 5th and 6th graders that are nominated by the staff to participate in fun, educational/leadership type activities. They have to give up their activity periods a couple times a month to help plan school wide activities based on a certain theme each year. This year the group is focusing on bullying. They have made and hung up signs around the school on how to stop bullying. They also run the "Paw Print Store" which is a place students can go when they have earned paw prints for doing good deeds at school to purchase fun items.
Emma is growing up so fast. It's hard to believe she is going to be 10 this month. In a couple years she's going to be babysitting. Yikes!! She's proud to say she's almost as tall as her cousin Leslie (she's 25) and getting as tall as a couple of her aunts. She's super excited for her cousin Allison's wedding coming up in April. She will get to hand out programs at the ceremony. She can't wait to bust a few moves on the dance floor too.
Tony and I have been well. We too have been just as busy as the kids. Of course, I'm running them to all their various activities along with being Girl Scout leader and DI manager for 2 teams, taking piano lessons myself, PTO secretary and trying to keep the household sane. Tony was again busy with another referendum to try and update Hilbert's school facilities. And much to our dismay, it failed again. We all made a trip to Madison in November to watch Hilbert's football play in the Division 7 State Championship. Tony was in the press box on the head set with the offensive and defensive coordinators. It was a fun time despite the loss. The other coaches wives and kids all made the trek too. We had a couple hotel rooms and hung out by the pool the night before. We had to bundle up because it was very cold. Needless to say it was stressful for us moms (bundle, unbundle for potty breaks, spilt hot chocolate, etc.) but in the end, it was all worth it to see the husbands/coaches and players holding that silver ball! Of course then it was girls weekend in the beginning of December to make up for all those Friday nights without the dads. Unfortunately, several of the ladies couldn't make it this year so it was just 3 of us. We took one for the team and had a great time. For us, it was all about eating HOT food, watching TLC for hours (not ESPN or Disney) and trying to do some Christmas shopping. Sometimes mothers can feel unappreciated so it's nice to get away and come home to see how much everyone missed you!
We had a great Christmas and spent our New Year's Eve with friends at a wedding. What a great time to start a life together! The kids were so excited this year because they got a Wii. Papa Jack had given Tony and I money for Christmas and each of the kids money so we put it all together towards a Wii. We have fun at night bowling at "Sweere Lanes".
Tony and I are now preparing for several summertime activities. We will again host the annual Backyard Olympics. It's always the second Saturday in June and we always have a blast. This year we're going to be adding a kickball tournament in Hilbert to help raise money for Team Wisconsin. We haven't pinned down a date yet but we're hoping to meet with a family in Hilbert that is a donor family we would like to get involved with the Team WI activities. They also are a big part of Hilbert Athletic Association so we need to get them involved with the tournament anyway to use the baseball fields. As soon as we've got a date, I'll post it here so everyone can mark it on their calendars. With this, we're hoping to coordinate a "training" session with some members from Team WI. We will have use of the track, basketball/volleyball courts, etc. at the high school here and we're hoping to get some of the team members together so they can at least practice once before the big games in Madison 2010!!! Tony and I are finally going to take a honeymoon. We've been married 11 years and decided it was time to go on a vacation together. Some friends of ours and us have rented a beautiful house on Isla Mujeres in Mexico. I've visited the house in 2007 when Emma and I went on the "Female Descendants of the Goddess Wynona" trip. And let me tell you, after all this snow and ice, I'm ready for some warm weather and sun! Unfortunately, we're not going until July. I know, it's the hottest time of the year but all the men that are going are teachers and they don't get a Spring Break so the only time they could all take off at the same time is in the summer.
I will update after all the doctor appointments this week. We should be able to schedule Rece's cath/biopsy this week too (I hope). I hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and has a healthy, happy New Year.
Take care,
The Sweeres
