I can't believe it's been over a month since I last posted. I thought once July was over our lives would slow down but boy was I wrong!!! Volleyball and football started, school started and that means scouts have started, piano lessons, religious education. . . . No wonder time is flying!
Emma and Rece have adjusted well to the school routine again. They were excited to get back to school and be with their friends. Jack, on the other hand, was a little apprehensive about leaving his "Momma". We had been prepping him all summer and as the time grew near we really had to pump him up. On the first day, he seemed okay. He didn't want me to leave until all his friends were there. Then, once it was time for me to leave, he started crying. He clung tightly to my leg and I had to pry him off. I made a mad dash for the door. Of course, I cried on the way home. I talked to his teacher after school and she said he cried for about 5 seconds and then he was fine. He's been great ever since. He loves school. I think he realized it gave him a little sense of independence. I've included some pictures from the first day.
Volleyball is going well. I have a really great group of girls this year. I think it really helps that they're all sophomores. Last year I had some sophomores and some freshmen and I could fell a little tension between the two classes. We're 5-3 so far in the season. Although, to me the record doesn't matter. My main goal of every season is to make sure the girls leave having learned something new from me. We only have a month left and then I'll help with the Varsity team as they head into play-offs.
We attended the annual Herma Heart Center Zoo Picnic in August. As always, we had a great time!
This weekend is the annual Brigg's & Al's Run/Walk for Children's Hospital. When we started this 6 years ago we were amazed at the number of people that participated and the amount of money that was raised for such a great cause. But, after this crazy, busy summer we had, we decided to take the next couple years off. We are now going to focus our fundraising efforts on supporting Team Wisconsin. Team Wisconsin will be having their reunion this Sunday and we are very much looking forward to seeing everyone again. We also decided to join in the Rainbow of Life walk before hand. This walk will benefit the National Kidney Foundation and the Wisconsin chapter. This foundation is a HUGE supporter of organ donation and transplantation and that is why we have chosen to support them. So, if you feel that you can help us reach our fundraising goal of $200 please check out our page http://walk.kidney.org/site/TR/Walk/WisconsinInc/1185448492?JServSessionIdr012=7tx2r798t1.app45b&px=1148898&pg=personal&fr_id=1230 and pledge online. If you are not comfortable pledging online, please drop off the donation at our house. Thanks for all your help.
Rece will have his check up next week. We'll do the usual lab work, echo, etc. This will be the first time we've actually gotten to see/talk to Dr. Berger, Dr. Zangwill and Gail since the Games so I'll be bringing the pictures. I'm also going to talk to them about trying to get more of the younger transplant patients to participate at the Games in Madison in 2010.
So, that is all for now. I'll get some new photos added here today (once the camera battery charges!)
Take care all,
Tony, Hillay, Emma, Rece and Jack
